Schellman's GDPR technical lead, Chris Lippert, gives some insight for this SC Magazine piece where he discusses the importance of data-mapping, stating that:

"It aids in laying the ground work for all present and future privacy considerations. That is definitely the first place to start. Companies very often have asset inventories, but don’t often think of personal data captured or data in general as an asset"
